ANYTHING GOES | GLADSTONE’S COMMUNITY MUSICAL

ANYTHING GOES | GLADSTONE’S COMMUNITY MUSICAL

Anything Goes – Gladstone’s 2019 Community Musical is showing at the Gladstone Entertainment & Convention Centre from February 21 to 24.

When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention head out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love… proving that sometimes anything goes!

Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

Confessions, mistaken identities, and marriage proposals, all done to the fantastic music of Cole Porter, how will everything work out? Who knows? Anything goes!

A word from Kim Roberts – Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre Venue Leader

Anything Goes…

‘Times have changed, and we’ve often rewound the clock’…

This time, to 1934, set aboard an ocean liner sailing from New York to London – For decades, Anything Goes has entranced theatre-goers all over the world with its show-stopping tap routines, thrilling melodies and comic verve.

Elegant and entertaining, we are so truly proud to be bringing Anything Goes to the GECC theatre stage in 2019.

The bi-annual Community Musical program brings together some of Gladstone’s most talented community members who present a professional production celebrating our local talent, creativity and flair, and provides an opportunity to perform and work with experienced theatre directors, technical crew, production staff and musicians.

The passion, professionalism and commitment of the cast and crew is undeniable with an enormous amount of time and energy going into this production over the past 9 months. I would especially like to acknowledge the incredible work of our creative team – Jeannine Butler, Josh Kearney, Leanne Brooker, Leanne Christensen, Marj and Sherrie Rampton and Ross and Helen James – you are the ‘movers and shakers’. Your enthusiasm and spirit is tireless and we are grateful to work alongside you.

Of course, I also want to thank our 2019 Community Musical sponsors for their support of this program. We have welcomed new sponsors and continued to build on previous relationships. Without your support, we could not offer this unrivalled opportunity to our community and quite simply, the show could not go on!

Finally, I wholeheartedly thank the ‘team behind the scenes’ – my colleagues at the GECC. I am inspired by your tenacity, talent and passion every day and genuinely appreciate the work that goes into bringing the production to life.

To our audiences, welcome aboard and enjoy the show where ‘heaven knows – Anything Goes’.
