The Great Zoo of China by Matthew Reilly
I enjoy Matthew Reilly’s books because they are an easy fast-paced read. He has the knack of drawing you in from page one and you don’t want the book to end!
The Great Zoo of China is a stand-alone novel, rare for Reilly as he is best known for his series about Shane Schofield or Jack West Jnr.
In this book, China has been keeping a secret from the world for 40 years. Now it wants to bring a state-of-the-art zoo to the world with dragons as the attraction. A group of VIPs are shown through the zoo with the assurance that everything is safe, then things go drastically wrong, the dragons are looking to escape, and everyone is fighting for their lives. As well as trying to stay alive the guests and hosts must figure out a way to keep these intelligent animals confined.
This novel reminded me a lot of Jurassic Park, but with dragons instead of dinosaurs. It’s a fast-paced, action-packed novel that leaves you wondering about the scientific possibilities of the future.
