BOYNE BADGER SET TO WANDER THE GLOBE
At the tender age of 10, Jimmy Keogh has the world at his feet. Thanks to his passion and dedication to training Jimmy is heading to England in October. He recently received an invitation to visit Bolton Wanderers Football Club and play in the Premier Coaching Advanced team for their International Tour. Jimmy who plays for the Boyne Island/Tannum Sands Badgers is very excited by this opportunity. Joining other talented footballers from around the world Jimmy will stay, play and train for two weeks at Macron Stadium, home of the Bolton Wanderers.
Jimmy’s invitation to the UK is a result of the hard work he put in at a HYPERLINK “http://premiercoaching.com.au/?page_id=2650”Premier Coaching Development Soccer Camp on the Sunshine Coast during the July school holidays. At the three day intensive training camp Jimmy’s talent was recognised. Jimmy said the camp was great and they trained for around 6 hours a day. He was the youngest Goal Keeper at the camp and is the youngest goalie selected to travel to the UK.
Jimmy loves playing the position of goalie because he enjoys the thrill of trying to save the ball. “It is great having the ball smashed at you, and I enjoy diving to save the ball. It feels really good when you make a save,” the talented sportsman said. Jimmy and his family were thrilled with the invitation to travel to the UK and develop his soccer skills. “I was quite shocked, and happy at the same time,” said Jimmy
Coach Paul Edwards, founder of Premier Coaching praised Jimmy and his family for making the huge effort to attend the goal keeping clinic on the Sunshine Coast. “Bolton Wanderers FC Academy is the second-best academy in the UK, just missing out on the top spot to Chelsea FC. We are very excited to offer this opportunity,” Mr Edwards said.
For now, Jimmy has been focusing on developing his goal keeping skills with the help of his Gladstone based specialist coaches. But, who knows where he will end up! Perhaps playing goalie for his favourite English Premier League team Manchester United isn’t such a faraway dream?
Jimmy’s family will be fundraising to help cover associated costs of travel to take advantage of this exciting opportunity.
