Clara Furness was only five when she started swimming competitively.
But she’s come a long way from participation ribbon to Queensland State finalist – and as proud parents, Siddi and Richard point out – there are nine years, hundreds of hours of training and thousands of laps between the two photos.
In addition to competing in the state final for backstroke last week, for the first time, Clara also swam a faster time than her dad.
No mean feat for a 14-year old, when dad stands almost 2 M tall and posted his own personal best time in the Men’s backstroke event at the meet, but mum Siddi credits Clara’s ‘quiet determination’ and the patience and care of coach Ryan McLoughlin.
Congratulations Clara and all the swimmers on their amazing performance.
