Gladstone Hospital’s state-of-the-art new Emergency Department is moving a step colser, with early works now complete, clearing the way for the main construction.
Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said a new car park had been built at the Park Street side of the hospital for the early works package of the project.
“The new car park now clears the way for construction of the new Emergency Department, which will effectively become a fresh new main entrance to the hospital,” he said.
Mr Butcher said the new Emergency Department had been designed specially to meet the needs of Gladstone and the region, and it would include the latest advances in healthcare and technology that will bring the ED into the future.
“This new facility will enable the highly skilled and dedicated team at Gladstone Hospital to provide even better care to their patients, in a contemporary environment that will enable better flow and more privacy for everyone,” he said.
The $42 million project was announced by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk as part of the $180 million Enhancing Regional Hospitals Program.
Tenders for the main contractor will be called next month, and is expected to be awarded by December.
The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020.
