EIGHT YOUNG LOCAL DANCERS GOT THE CHANCE OF A LIFETIME LAST WEEK
TO PERFORM WITH THE MELBOURNE CITY BALLET DURING THEIR GLADSTONE PERFORMANCE OF A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.
Telling the convoluted story of the young lovers Helena, Lysander, Demetrius and Hermia and involving dancing Amazons and a fairy wedding, the call went out for local dancers aged between 12 and 14 to form the chorus of fairy dancers.
Dancers from several local schools including Adagio and the Amber Wieland School of Dance took part in a day-long workshop with members of the Melbourne City Ballet company to prepare them for the packed out performance, which concluded in a huge cheer from the audience when the local dancers took their bows.
“That was very special for the girls,” Helen Graham from Adagio said.
