2016 is the Golden Jubilee year for Chanel College, celebrating 50 years. Last week, as another celebration of the school’s longevity, Chanel College students and staff captured a moment in their schools, and Gladstone’s history with a time capsule.
Letters from students, photos and local memorabilia were laced into the capsule, with plans that it will once again be opened in 25 years, which will be in 2041. The Student Representative Council has been working to organise the contents of the time capsule and the ceremony.
Principal Sharon Volp addressed the school Wednesday morning, moments before school captain’s Lachlan and Sophie had the honour of burying the capsule.
“Every item being placed in this time capsule has a special meaning and has been carefully selected to represent different aspects of life at Chanel during 2016, as well as highlighting some of the current world events and cultural trends of our time.”
To commemorate the special occasion, Chanel students also took part in an aerial shot taken by QLD Aerial with the number 50 made up of students and staff on the oval.
