Charles Thompson

Dear Gladstone Regional Council residents I am a proud local, single father raising 3 boys. People who know me well will tell you how passionate I am about my community and region, and that I will tell it like it is! I am excited to announce my intention to run for a position on the Council in the March elections. Living, studying, working and raising the boys in Gladstone over the past 40 years has given me a true love for the region and passion for the topics currently impacting our local economy. Without sounding like a cliché, I believe my commencement will be an opportunity to challenge current policies and schools of thought, invigorate discussions and be a representative for working class families. I want to talk with the locals and other Councilors to examine the issues and facts of the situation and work through the possible solutions to the most efficient and sustainable outcome on matters such employment, reviewing rates, regional growth and development and enhancing facilities and activities for our youth. I am passionate about listening to the people and working with my colleagues in the Council to drive sustainable change and vision for the region. My focus is on achieving a positive, progressive campaign – using only what has happened in the past as an opportunity for learning. Further to this I will actively challenge spending and decision-making allocating Council’s resources to ensure we are employing local and supporting local businesses through our work. With this said, there maybe a place for consulting specialists, however, my focus is on building capacity and financial independence locally. Local supporting locals! With tradition, family-orientated values I have the tenacity, experience and motivation to be the voice, and stand up for, the people of the Gladstone Region. As a representative for the people I will make myself available to discuss their issues or raise their concerns.
