Last week I had the very great pleasure of opening the brand-new Central Queensland Driver Education Centre.
This $1.2m centre funded via a partnership between the Australian Government Stronger Regions Fund, Gladstone Regional Council and the Calliope and District Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank, will provide a safe, controlled, off-road area for the provision of driver training activities that benefit drivers of all ages and is a potential life-saver for road users throughout Flynn, especially our young people
Today’s drivers have more distractions than ever before with the likes of smartphones diverting people’s attention away from the road ahead.
The single best fix to this problem is education, especially for the young drivers taking to the roads, where many do not understand the risks and responsibilities when they get behind the wheel.
I have no doubt this driver education centre will save lives, by giving drivers the skills and knowledge to value the responsibility given to them, when they take to the roads shared by thousands of other Australians
Hopefully, on top of saving lives, the centre can provide an economic boost for the Gladstone Region with students from throughout Central Queensland improving their driving ability at the facility.
