Meet a local volunteer

Name:  Nita Mehta

Where do you volunteer?

I do a lot of volunteering in my spare time in a variety of places such as WIN (Welcoming Intercultural Neighbours), Gladstone Library, Stepping Stones Child Care Centre and St Vinnies. At WIN, I have assisted with administration, Information Sessions, and Language Café.

How long have you been volunteering at WIN for?

I arrived in Gladstone from India 2 years ago and started volunteering at WIN in January 2016.

Why do you choose to volunteer at WIN?

I like to meet different people and it’s an opportunity to contribute to the Gladstone community. I also really liked being at WIN as I found their programs quite interesting and knew I could learn many things there. It also gave me an opportunity to meet people from different cultures and learn about them.

What is your favourite thing about volunteering?

I really enjoy spending time with the very friendly and helpful staff and volunteers at WIN!  Initially, I did not know anyone but have made many good friends.

What would you say to encourage others to volunteer?

WIN conducts educational programs that help people from different cultures to understand Australian culture as well as share their own.  Volunteering at WIN presents a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet your global community without leaving Gladstone!
