National Volunteer Week – Smiles at Gladstone Hospital

Smiles are free Gladstone Hospital

To celebrate Volunteers week we are featuring some wonderful community members and groups in our region who lead the way when it comes to generously spending their time serving the community.

A merry band of willing helpers is spreading cheer and goodwill at Gladstone Hospital by greeting visitors with a smile. Four members of the Gladstone Hospital Auxiliary volunteer at the information booth at the main Park Street entrance, welcoming visitors and showing directions.

Brendan Docherty, Executive Director Gladstone-Banana Clinical Network, said this was just one of the valuable services the auxiliary members provided to the hospital. “We all know it can be quite difficult to find your way around a hospital and a kind word is much appreciated by everyone,” Mr Docherty said. “We’re very proud of the relationship we have with our auxiliary members, which is both a caring and respectful relationship. It provides a strong and essential link between the hospital and our community and working as a team with the auxiliary is very important to us.”

The booth is manned on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the auxiliary members would be delighted if more volunteers could join their group to spread the love even further.
