This Sunday, 1 October the inaugural Owen Harms Family Fun Day will be held at Gary Larsen Oval, Miriam Vale, from 1pm.
Former colleague Jason Manttan writes about the day, which will celebrate the life of his friend:
“I knew Owen for a long time. I was lucky enough to work with, and learn from Owen at the Miriam Vale Police Station, share our families with Owen, play sport with Owen, and later, again professionally, have Owen as our Adopt-a-Cop at Ubobo State School.
‘Owie’ was a one-of-a-kind person. He had a way of bringing the best out in people, rallying people, leading people, bringing bucketfuls of enthusiasm, and caring for people, particularly children and our youth. How someone could have so many friends, and seemingly give each his full attention and care, is something I’m sure most of us wish we could emulate.
Owen passed away on the 1st August and since the day of his funeral, a great friend of Owen’s, Greg Realf, has set about to create a day in Owen’s honour, with the help and support of many in the Miriam Vale community. This is a day of fun and celebration, to remember Owen, and share with all in the community everything Owen loved in life.
The day is complete with Grand Final NRL football on a big screen, lots of free activities for children, a junior rugby league coaching clinic, some social touch football, auctions and raffles, fundraising for the Gary Larsen Oval Enhancement Group (GLOEG), food and drink, and entry is completely free!
It all sounds very Owen Harms! It’s a real legacy to Owen that the greater community is banding together so well to honour this fantastic person. At 5.00pm, a plaque will be unveiled for Owen.”
