The Rio Tinto Yarwun Valley Rally is a scavenger hunt where you chase clues; collect treasure, do fun activities across loads of awesome Gladstone locations.
It’s on again in just a few days, Saturday 5 August starting at 1pm CQU Marina Campus and finishing at Yarwun State School at 3pm. With a school fate to enjoy at the finish line.
We tracked down a local team of legendary ladies who participated in the Rally last year to ask them a few questions about the event:
What was your team name and who was on your team?
BIG GIRL CAR – Joanne Lewis, Kim Roberts, Cindi Bush and Leanne Buchholz
Why did you sign up for the Yarwun Rio Rally?
We signed up as it looked like a fun way to share time with friends while supporting a great cause. – Joanne
What was your favourite memory from the 2016 rally?
Favourite memory was the laughs had along the way – watching teams put their hands into the prawn/squid/fish gut filled water at Gladstone Fish Market was hilarious. – Joanne
Are you participating this year?
We are definitely going to sign up again this year and are encouraging other friends to do the same. Was such a great time. The trophy at the end was a lovely memento too. -Joanne
What’s your secret to doing well in the Rally?
Be strategic! Think about every inch the car has to move (the winner is the person who does it in the least kilometres) including reversing out of parks.
– Park further away from the activities and walk to them to save precious kilometres. – Kim
