Protected industrial action by AMWU members outside Monadelphous’ Gladstone-Benaraby Road premises this week has resulted in a win for the union.
The four-hour stoppage involving around sixty workers with flags and placards, attracted a lot of support from passing motorists tooting their horns in support.
AMWU organiser Phil Golby told Gladstone News that they’d managed to secure and retain most of the workers’ entitlements but had reached a stalemate with the company offering 1 ½ per cent up front.
“The guys here said they’d be happy with two,” Phil said. “All we want them to do is move half a per cent,” Phil said.
Agreements were reached with the company later the same day, meaning further planned protected action next week, including rolling stoppages, will not take place.
