Studying out of the region? Get help with travel…..

Are you a student who studies away from your home? The Federal Government offers fares assistance to students to travel home, to relocate and under certain other circumstances. This information is presented to you by the Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd in the hope that it may be useful in easing the financial burden of tertiary study for the people of Flynn.

Back to school time again for thousands of families across Flynn. 2018 is sure to be a very important year for the residents of Flynn and our nation.

For many Central Queensland families, this time of year can also be quite expensive with numerous tertiary students relocating to pursue their chosen field of study.

There is a Fare Allowance available for eligible students to help with some of these costs.

Claims for the Fare Allowance relating to eligible travel and transport expenses from 2017 must be submitted to Centrelink before the end of March this year.

For more information and to find if you or the student in your family is eligible, go to https://www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/services/centrelink/fares-allowance or simply Google “Fares Allowance” and it should appear at the very top of the search results.

It’s an allowance worth investigating as it can contribute hundreds of dollars towards flight costs as well as coach/train transfers and personal transport which meet the required criteria.
