Wallabies Legend puts the spotlight on Botanic to Bridge

Santos GLNG ambassador and Wallabies great Tim Horan are encouraging the Gladstone community to get behind this year’s Botanic to Bridge FunD Run.

The Rugby World Cup and Bledisloe-winning star visited Gladstone schools last week, talking to students about the event as well as high performance, teamwork, staying active and eating well.

Mr Horan said he has a strong passion for health and wellbeing, particularly in young people.

“We want to see our young people thrive,” Mr Horan said.

“Active community events such as the Botanic to Bridge support them in leading happier and healthier live regardless of whether they run, walk or skip along the course.”

The Gladstone Ports Corporation’s (GPC) Botanic to Bridge is now in its ninth year, having returned more than $350,000 to the local community since its first race.

GPC People, Community and Sustainability General Manager Rowen Winsor said 1273 students took part in 2017.

“It was wonderful to see so many students sign up for the 3 kilometre and 8-kilometre events last year and have their registration fees go straight back to their nominated school,” Ms Winsor said.

“It meant our schools receive more than $26,000 towards essential health, sport and recreation equipment aimed at encouraging students and their families to embrace healthy lifestyles,”

Registration for the 19 August event are open at www.botanictobridge.com.au

Tim Horan’s trip to Gladstone was made possible by this year’s Platinum Sponsor, Santos GLNG.
