Local Cross Fit Gladstone athlete, Will Kearney has qualified to compete at the Wodapalooza Fitness Festival to be held in January in Miami Florida.
Will is one of fifteen competitors from around the world who has qualified to compete at the Cross Fit Competition. He said to qualify he had to complete a series of qualifying workouts over three weeks. “Once you have done those workouts you submit a score to the online system and then you get ranked. The top fifteen in my 16 to 18-year-old division are selected to travel to Miami in Florida to compete,” Will said.
Competitors will travel from around the world to compete at the 3-day event. The competition gives athletes from around the world an opportunity to compete on the “big stage.” Will said he has been training hard to prepare for the event, under the guidance of his American based coach Shane, who used to reside in Gladstone. Will is hoping to spend some time with Shane in America for more preparation training before heading to Miami to compete.
Luckily for Will, he has been fortunate enough to train alongside Australian weightlifter and Cross Fit Games Athlete, Tia-Clair Toomey when she is in Gladstone. Will said Tia is a great inspiration. “I have always looked up to her. I have known her since I was 15 and she is inspiring. I admire how hard she works and how she dedicates herself to her sport,” Will said.
Will is the Head Coach at Cross Fit Gladstone and the gym is fundraising to help cover the costs associated with attending the event. To show their support 50% of all shirt, singlet and hat sales will go to Will for fundraising. This offer will available through to Christmas.
Gladstone News wishes Will all the best in preparing and competing at Wodapalooza! Perhaps Gladstone has another Cross Fit Games Champion in the making!
