13 Aug ARTmatters Receives Donations
Last week ARTmatters at Creative Gladstone Region Inc received a number of donations from local businesses to help renovate and expand their gallery.
Many local businesses and community members were involved in the renovation with Helloworld Travel Gladstone donating a large desk and office chairs, Council Representative Natalia Muszkat donating a kitchen bench, Libby and John Green from RACQ donating their time and labour, Inspirations Paint CQ sanding the concrete floor, and Allan Giles donated his time to give the studio a fresh coat of paint.
Christine Ward who is the secretary of Creative Gladstone Region was thrilled by the community support.
“It’s wonderful! We closed for a week to upgrade the gallery, there were quite a few donations, we had donations of paint and labour and they were all thankful that they could give us something, not monetary wise but furniture wise, it’s great to see locals supporting locals.”
Christine went on to say how important these donations are for small non-for-profits.
“Any donation in kind is wonderful support! As you know with all small organisations we struggle to raise the money to buy resources, so to have all these things donated to us, it’s really great.”
ARTmatters used the donated materials to renovate a new office space and to open up and renovate the kitchen, installing a new window. ARTmatters is now hoping for donations for a disable toilet block as they do not have the facilities to service the disable art community in Gladstone.
Currently ARTmatters has 60 active members in the Gladstone Region, with membership lasting 12 months. If you are interested in becoming a member head to www.creativegladstone.org.au for more information.
