The latest stop on the Turtleway Artscape was opened last week on Tarcoola Drive on the banks of the Boyne River where it depicts the birdlife which can be seen in the beautiful local spot – an owl, an egret and a kookaburra as well as our nightly visitor, the flying fox
Situated on the river bend where the glittering mosaics catch the morning and afternoon sun, artist Janie Petersen said she hoped her work “Night and Day” would encourage people passing to “spread their wings, sing their unique song and embrace all the colours of the world.”
A joint project of the Rotary Club of Boyne Tannum, the Gladstone Regional Council, Boyne Island Lions, Boyne Smelters Ltd, and the Boyne Tannum Arts Business and Community Association – the Turtleway Artscape is a walking and cycling route through Boyne Island and Tannum Sands which will ultimately contain 22 artworks along its length. Ms Petersen’s work is the seventh to be opened.
