05 Nov Book Week
Children from around Australia dressed up as their favorite book characters to celebrate Book Week 2020.
Held on Saturday, October 17 to Friday October 23 by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), Book Week 2020 was originally scheduled for August – but thanks to COVID-19, the Children’s Book Council of Australia announced that it’s been postponed to term 4 to give everyone a little more time to get organized.
The theme for Book Week 2020 was “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds”. As usual, the broad theme left plenty of room for creativity, so children had the opportunity to dress up as whichever character they though fit the brief.
Alongside Book Week, the CBCA hosts an annual book awards to promote children’s books of high literary and artistic quality.
CBCA National Chair, Emeritus Professor Margot Hillel OAM, said the lockdowns and service closures of 2020 have left children and families with more time to read in 2020, and many children have delighted in escaping into books.
“It has been another exceptional year for the CBCA Book of the Year Awards, with plenty of writing to entertain, touch the hearts of young readers and help them gain empathy and new perspectives,” Professor Hillel said.
