The Port Curtis Orchid & Foliage Society Inc. was born from a growing passion for horticulture in the Gladstone region, sparked in part by the Covid-19 pandemic. A group of 11 local enthusiasts—including orchid and foliage growers, nurses, and administrators—joined forces to create the society, aimed at fostering a love of plants across generations through education, mentorship, fellowship, and fun. “Our mission statement is rooted in education, mentorship, fellowship, and, of course, fun. Here’s why our team believes this club is essential for fostering a love of plants across generations.” A representative states.
Recognising the beauty and therapeutic benefits of gardening, the society seeks to engage people of all ages in horticulture. Their mission is to break down barriers for beginners by offering workshops, expert talks, and hands-on demonstrations to educate members on plant care, with a special focus on orchids and foliage. “Members will learn about different species, proper care techniques, and even the science behind plant growth. This foundational knowledge not only empowers participants but also encourages a deeper appreciation for the natural world.”
