A talented group of Under 14 girls will be representing Gladstone overseas in Singapore this November. The team, currently made up of six girls—Kirra, Alliara, Danii, Izzy, Adele and Shayla—are thrilled about the opportunity to play in the Singa Cup, with some experiencing international travel for the first time. Kirra states, “I am excited to travel to Singapore. It will be my first time overseas. I can’t wait to play in the stadium that has been created just for our tournament and to see how skilled the international teams are.” Similarly, Alliara states that this is also her first time overseas, “I am so excited I have the opportunity to travel to Singapore and play in the SingaCup.” Adele states “I am very excited for this dream experience and am thrilled to represent Central Queensland with my team.”
To reach their goal of raising $5,000, the team has been actively fundraising through BBQ events and selling raffle tickets. They hold a BBQ fundraiser at the Palm Drive Soccer fields once a month on Saturday mornings and will be hosting another BBQ at Bunnings on July 6th. They invite the community of Gladstone and surrounding areas to support them by enjoying a delicious sausage sizzle and a cold drink. Generous donations from the local community, including a $300 gift card from Woolworths Kirkwood, contributions from Bidfood Gladstone, Tannum Sands Fish and Chip shop, OMF (which donated a king single mattress), and Yeti bottles from Glenn Butcher’s office, have significantly helped in keeping costs low.
