I am very grateful to Minister for Indigenous Affairs Senator Nigel Scullion for accepting my invitation to travel to Woorabinda with me recently.
After an extremely productive meeting with Woorabinda State School Principal Tracey Egar, we sat down with Geoff and Llona the program co-ordinators for Cathy Freeman Foundation. This was followed by a great chat and discussion with the Australian Red Cross team at the Bill Thaiday Centre (pictured).
During the visit Minister Scullion and I also visited with the Principal of Wadja Wadja High School Mr Andrew Evetts, an independent non-denominational, co-educational Community School. Mr Evetts met with me in Canberra recently and asked we visit with him at the school. It was my pleasure to bring the Minister for Indigenous Affairs along for his first visit to the High School.
We were also welcomed by members of the Woorabinda Shire Council and their team to announce funding for a fantastic community project. More than $50,000 to go towards a commemorative walking trail for the Woorabinda community.
