Mayor taps into Biotech networks

Mayor Matt Burnett will travel to Boston this week for the BIO International Convention.

Spruiking developments in our region as a bio-fuels hub, it’s the second trip to the USA taken by our Mayor as part of a Queensland State Government trade mission lead by Premier Anastacia Palaczszuk.

Sixteen thousand people from 74 different countries are expected to attend BIO, hosted by the Biotechnology Innovation Organisation.

BIO represents more than 1,100 biotechnology companies and institutions across 31 countries. BIO members are involved in the research and development of healthcare, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products.

“There are some great opportunities for us, and we’re aware of the benefits that biotechnology will bring to our region,” he said.

The cost of attending the conference including travel will be around $10,000.
