McCosker to dominate speedway with new race car

Bob McCosker’s passion for racing grew from a childhood living on a farm and driving cars from an early age.

The entrepreneur who, through his business McCosker Contracting, is the naming right sponsor of the McCosker Rocky Speedway, recently unveiled the latest addition to his fleet of race cars, the Dominator Super (GL95) Sedan.

Built in 2013 by the Dominator chassis manufacturer, Ian Boettcher Race Parts in Ipswich, the two seater was then used by their team as a sponsor or client experience race car.

The vehicle, which is the only of its kind in Queensland, changed hands a few times over the years, and ended up back as a race car in the Super Sedan Division.

McCosker purchased it in 2020, mainly for use at the Gladstone Auto Club’s Benaraby Speedway Track once construction is complete.

“The aim is to give members of the public a taste of adrenaline, and a look into what speedway driving is all about, as well as promoting the motorsport industry,” Bob said.

The McCosker Rocky Speedway 2021-2022 Season Opener, which took place on September 25, was the perfect opportunity to put the car through its paces.

“Initially the first run was to give the Dominator a test, put it through its safety and setup checks to ensure safety before putting someone in the passenger seat,” Bob said.

“However the car ran great in the first heat, so we tuned it up and put the medal to the metal and raced it for the last heats and feature race.”

McCosker Contracting is a leader in the fields of bulk earthworks, civil constructions, HDPE pipelines, mining infrastructure, and structural and civil concrete work scopes.

They are the major partner in assisting the Gladstone Auto Club finalise the new track build at Benaraby Raceway.

Bob said even though the track was highly advanced and substantially complete there was a lot of “behind the scenes work occurring to finalise the second phase of works to complete the track and facility build”.

“It is imminent for the track to open with our teams working hard to get the cars rolling for the 2022 season,” he said.
