Meet a Local Volunteer

Meet a Local Volunteer

Christopher Doring

Where do you volunteer?

Welcoming Intercultural Neighbours (WIN) and Gladstone Youth for Cultural Diversity (GYCD).

How long have you been volunteering there for?

 Since 2016.

Why do you choose to volunteer at WIN?

I had finished my university studies and had a part-time job, but I wanted to be more productive and get involved in some new activities.  I also wanted to get out and meet new people as many of my uni friends were either working or had left town.  When I discovered there were volunteering opportunities at a local multiculturalism group, I decided that it would be a great idea to have a go!

What is your favourite thing about volunteering?

We have a motivated and supportive team to achieve rewarding projects which benefit our community.

What would you say to encourage others to volunteer?

If anyone wants to do something rewarding with their spare time, doing volunteer work with WIN is a great start!  You can also network with potential employers or just enjoy participating in all the interesting events WIN organises.
