Meet a local Volunteer
Name: Judy Richmond
Where do you volunteer?
Judy is a member of the Star of the Sea “Caulfield on the Lawn” organising committee; she has volunteered on this committee in 2014, 2015, 2016 and this year.
What do you do there?
“I guess I have many roles, we all do. I am in the catering team but we do everything together, we have a fantastic team. We’re like a little family,” Judy said.
“We do have some very long-standing members; we all look after each other so no-one is stuck doing the same job. We’re all very cohesive and it’s a nice feeling to be a part of that.
“I always sell it as a fun thing to attend as a helper.”
What is your favourite thing about volunteering?
“A lot of us grew up with our families supporting our schools, so we’re leaving a little legacy for our kids. Giving back and being part of the community is one thing, but I am nothing without the other girls and guys on that committee, we love working together,” Judy said.
“That’s why I keep going back, that’s what I do it for, it’s a great feeling to be a part of something like that.”
What would you say to encourage others to volunteer?
Don’t be afraid to have a go. It can be a bit daunting the idea of volunteering: “what are they going to make me do?” but there’s always support there for you if you want to give it a go.
