27 Jan Motocross athlete ready for 2022 with new sponsorship
Local Motocross athlete Matty Kennedy has joined the BluCru for 2022!
Matty was the first rider announced for the Rocky Yamaha Race Team in mid-January.
“What an awesome start to the 2022 season,” Matty said of the announcement.
“A big thank you to Brent Storey and the Rocky Yamaha Team, this sponsorship means a lot to me.
“Brent understands where I am at with my racing, and where I would like to be, and it’s awesome to have such a supportive crew behind you.
“Racing any motor sport is expensive, and this sponsorship means I can stress less about the financial side of things, and concentrate more on enjoying my racing and getting some good results.”
Matty, who has been racing since he was five years old, has ambitious plans for the 2022 season.
“I want to race the Sunshine State Series, the Central Queensland Series, Queensland Titles, Rockhampton and Gladstone Club days, and anything else I can fit in,” he said.
“Central Queensland has some great riders, some of the best in Queensland, so the competition will be tough.
“I’ve always been taught that no matter how good you think you are, there is always someone chasing you, or better than you, so take the wins when you get them, and work harder when you don’t.
“I think my biggest competition will be against myself though; I need to learn not to be so hard on myself, just to enjoy my racing and the results will hopefully come.”
Racing is definitely a family affair for the Kennedy family, with Matty’s Dad involved in Motocross growing up, and his son Hudson starting racing this year.
“When one Kennedy races you get the whole family,” he said.
“Growing up I was always going away for races, on the road with my parents and little brother, and now it looks like I am going to be doing the same with my kids.
“My Dad, who is our mechanic, just loves watching his grandson ride; it really is a family affair.”
In addition to Rocky Yamaha, Matty said he would like to thank “Alpinestar; Rival Ink; BRTmx; MPE Suspension; Ash’s Spoked Wheels; Raine & Horne Gladstone and Elders Insurance Gladstone”.
“I really want to do well, not just for me and my family, but for them as well,” he said.
“Also, if you’re thinking about racing Motocross, stop thinking about it and just give it a go.
“You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. It’s a great family sport and you won’t regret it.”
The Central Queensland Motocross Series kicks off in Biloela in March.
