20 Dec NDIS Supporting Families and Carers
A core aim of the NDIS is to better support you in your caring role.
Your experiences are important in the planning process due to your unique understanding of the person you care for and may inform the decision-making process regarding support, goals setting and assessment.
The Scheme funds support for families to enable them to remain in their caring role. This support includes:
- Family support and counselling due to a family member’s disability
- Building skills and capacity of family members to manage the impact of a participant’s disability upon family life
- Supports that increase the participant’s independence, enabling the participant to enjoy social and community activities,
- Supports aimed at increasing the sustainability of family caring arrangement. Including maintaining a carer’s health and wellbeing. This may include participation in support or special interest networks.
Whilst the planning process is focussed on your family member living with disability, family members and carers and the role you play in providing ongoing support, is key to identifying the sorts of support needed in a plan
