Prizm Engineering: Celebrating a Year of Giving Back to the Gladstone Community

After marking a decade in business last year, Prizm Engineering set out on a journey of giving back to the Gladstone community that has been integral to its success. In the months following our 10-year anniversary, we have embraced the opportunity to support local initiatives, enhance community wellness, and inspire young minds. Our mission for the year has been to express our gratitude by investing in causes close to our hearts and reinforcing our commitment to making Gladstone a better place to live and work.

Supporting Local Health and Wellness

This year, one of our key focuses was mental health, especially men’s mental health—a critical issue in regional areas. Prizm proudly supported and sponsored Outback Mind, a Gladstone-based organization dedicated to providing essential mental health resources and support to men across the region. Rob Birmingham stood out as a true example and lead ambassador for men's mental health. Beyond being a passionate advocate, he elevated his commitment by carrying a Concept2 rower up Mount Larcom and setting the extraordinary challenge of rowing a marathon at its summit to raise funds for Men’s Mental Health Week. His efforts deeply resonated with Prizm’s mission to foster mental well-being, particularly in regional areas where resources can be limited. We were honored to support their impactful work, which has brought hope, understanding, and vital assistance to so many in our community.

In July, Prizm took part in fundraising and awareness efforts for cancer support by donating to the Dry July Foundation, an organization that raises funds to support those living with cancer. Dry July's reach extends beyond Gladstone, but the benefit felt within our community through increased support resources and programs was a motivating factor for our involvement. Prizm is committed to supporting health-focused initiatives that promote wellness and quality of life for residents across Gladstone and the surrounding areas.

Championing Local Schools and Youth Development

Prizm is passionate about the youth of Gladstone, especially in encouraging their academic and extracurricular pursuits.

This year, we proudly sponsored the Chanel College 1 st XIII Confraternity Shield Rugby League team, helping to ensure that the students could participate in sport, fostering teamwork, discipline, and fitness.

Beyond rugby, Prizm was delighted to sponsor the Curtis Coast Dolphins Netball club, equipping them with a custom trailer to transport essential gear to and from games. This ensures the team can travel fully prepared, making it easy to get straight into the game and enjoy every moment.

We were thrilled to extend our support to Chanel College's talented music students, who recently showcased their skills at the Queensland Catholic Music Festival (QCMF) in Brisbane. Their performances spanned various genres and styles, demonstrating impressive technical skill, emotional expression, and stage presence. What a remarkable group of young musicians! We are proud to be part of their journey and look forward to seeing their continued growth and success.

Through these initiatives, Prizm is honored to play a role in nurturing both the academic, athletic and artistic potential of Gladstone’s youth, reinforcing our commitment to the growth and well-being of the next generation.

Our dedication to youth extends further with our engineering-focused initiatives. We are thrilled to sponsor engineering studies for Year 12 students at 2 local high schools, recognizing the top achievers in engineering studies at both schools. These sponsorships are designed not only to reward excellence but also to inspire students to explore a future in engineering. Apart from receiving prize money, both students will have the opportunity to visit Prizm Engineering, giving students a closer look at the world of engineering and what a career in the field entails. It’s our way of inspiring the next generation of engineers and showing them the many paths, they can take in an industry full of innovation and impact.

Inspiring Future Engineers Through Student Placements

Prizm also had the privilege of hosting students from several schools, including Trinity College, Gladstone State High School, and Toolooa State High School, for placements. These young minds joined our team to gain hands-on experience and an inside look at the engineering profession. We believe that such exposure is crucial in building interest and understanding in STEM fields, and we’re dedicated to instilling a love for engineering by showcasing real-world applications. From project management to technical operations, the placements were designed to be comprehensive and enriching, allowing students to see the possibilities that lie ahead in their educational and professional journeys.

Academic Excellence and Practical Experience for Future Engineers

Prizm Engineering’s commitment to academic excellence extends beyond high school support to higher education partnerships. We are proud to support Central Queensland University (CQU) Co-op students by offering practical placements that fulfill their study requirements. Through these placements, students gain invaluable hands-on experience in the engineering world, enriching their knowledge and practical understanding. By working alongside our skilled professionals, these future engineers witness the real-world impact of their studies and gain insights that are crucial to their development.

In addition to our on-site placements and sponsorships, Prizm Engineering was privileged to host a stall at this year’s Gladstone Careers Expo, held at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC). With an impressive turnout of approximately 1,100 students, the expo provided us with a unique opportunity to connect with young minds eager to explore future career options.

Our team engaged with students, answered questions, and provided insight into the dynamic world of engineering and project management.

Making a Difference with Community Clean-Up Efforts

In a new endeavour, Prizm Engineering joined forces with Tangaroa Blue and Reef Clean in our first beach clean-up, a cause we found both humbling and rewarding. The team gathered at Tannum Main Beach, home to many Prizm employees, to help keep our local shores clean and beautiful. During the beach clean up, we collected 27 kilograms of debris, totalling 373 items, which included plastic packaging, fishing items, and other waste materials.

We recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy environment, and this clean-up was just the beginning. We look forward to future opportunities to give back to our town, one small step at a time, to ensure our beautiful beaches remain pristine for generations to come.

Expanding Our Horizons with New Partnerships

This year has also marked a period of significant growth for Prizm Engineering, as we expanded our reach and forged new partnerships across Queensland. Building on existing relationships, we have established new collaborations with Fraser-Lever, Fortescue, Binnies, CS Energy, Stanwell, Fraser Coast Council, Bundaberg Council, and Abbott Point Bulk Coal. Each new partnership strengthens our commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions while expanding our influence and service offerings.
