Ride4Lives Suicide Awareness Ride

Ride4Lives Suicide Awareness Ride

“Assisting communities in suicide awareness, prevention, bereavement, training and actively supporting good mental health for individuals and families hosting events, activities, presentations along with supporting information”- Ride4Lives Vision Statement

Mark Brookes, the event’s Organiser, Founder and President of Ride4Lives is hoping the event will encourage conversation, and support positive mental health.

“We really want this event to generate awareness, understanding and education, connection, conversation and unity regarding the tragic loss of life in the form of suicide,” said Mark.

This year, the event will have increased involvement from community support organisations, and will feature a new off road route and newly designed interactive activity called “The Hunt.”

“Everyone can get involved with Ride4Lives. Cars and Four-wheel-drives can follow the bikes. We all become “Riders Against Suicide Creating Awareness” on the day.”

For people who can’t be physically involved in the event, there are still ways to become involved. People can donate to the cause at www.ride4lives.org, or if you have a club or group that wants to create an event with anything you ride, contact the Ride4Lives team for assistance.

The main goal of Ride4Lives is to promote conversation and decrease stigma surrounding suicide.

“Being affected by suicide and mental health can cause disconnections and isolations both individually and socially. Decreasing stigma through conversation and reducing suicides by creating events such as the Suicide Awareness Ride promotes conversation, positive mental health and unity for all. No one needs to do it alone, and this is truly our inspiration.

“Despite our differences and how our exterior presents, we all have a heart that wants to care for others. Come and join us on our annual Suicide Awareness Ride, commencing at the Gladstone Marina stage, riding on route to the southern region destination at the Captain Creek Sporting and Recreation Grounds. Registrations are currently open at www.ride4lives.org/events.”
