26 Jul Shaping a Sustainable Tomorrow: Alpha HPA’s First Project Takes the Lead
Pioneering a New Era of High Purity Alumina
Alpha HPA Limited is poised to commence the development of Stage 2 of its HPA First Project, following the receipt of up to $21.7 million in funding under the Queensland Government’s Industry Partnership Program.
In recent affairs, Acting Premier Steven Miles and Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher, announced the funding while inspecting Stage 1 of the project in Gladstone. The aim of the proposal is to facilitate the commercialisation of high purity alumina (HPA) and related HPA precursor products in Gladstone, utilising Alpha HPA’s proprietary licensed solvent extraction and refining technology.
The forthcoming Queensland Battery Industry Strategy, which is scheduled for release later this year, will place significant emphasis on the establishment of diverse and sustainable supply chains. Investments like Alpha’s not only contributed to the expansion of Queensland’s critical minerals processing capabilities but also ensure that emerging industries, such as battery manufacturing, have access to the necessary materials to bring safe and high-performing products to the market.
Gladstone Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing, Glenn Butcher commented on the initiative and has voiced his excitement about the project.
“The HPA First Project aligns with our objectives to grow the state’s critical minerals processing capabilities to support downstream value adding and export opportunities in new industries such as battery manufacturing,”
“Alpha HPA’s HPA First Project brings together two of my greatest passions! Gladstone and manufacturing,” said Mr Butcher.
The high purity alumina produced through this groundbreaking initiative will find widespread application in various cutting-edge technologies. From LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting to lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, semiconductors, and consumer electronics, the demand for HPA continues to surge. With the completion of Stage 2, Alpha’s disruptive and low-carbon process technology will enable the extraction and purification of aluminium from industrial feedstock. This achievement will result in the production of 4N alumina with a purity level exceeding 99.99% and 5N aluminium salts surpassing 99.999% purity.
These premium-grade materials will be supplied to high-technology markets, fuelling the growth of industries that rely on them for manufacturing safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly products.
Alpha HPA’s HPA First Project stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and pushing the boundaries of traditional alumina production. Through this groundbreaking initiative, Gladstone’s critical minerals processing capabilities are poised to reach new heights, while emerging industries gain access to the high-quality materials necessary to spearhead advancements in technology and pave the way for a brighter and greener future.
