Bailey Silvester, hailing from The Gladstone Athletics Club, has received the prestigious honour of being chosen to represent his club in the upcoming 2024 New Zealand Development Tour.
This exceptional opportunity offers athletes the chance to enhance their athletic skills in the company of some of New Zealand’s most gifted competitors.
Samantha Wakely, a dedicated committee member of the club and notably, Bailey’s mother has enthusiastically expressed her joy and pride regarding her son’s recent accomplishments.
“Bailey has always been a great athlete and he comes from an athletic background,” shares Samantha.
“Ever since Bailey was a child, he’s always loved sports. His father used to coach and mentor him when he was younger and all three of us have been heavily involved with the club and the team,”
“Bailey was selected because he was nominated. Out of sixty eight kids, only thirty were selected to travel to New Zealand and Bailey was one of the lucky ones!” exclaimed Samantha.
“Bailey has been fortunate enough to be crowned aged champion for his age group and he is very excited to compete in the Colgate Games,”
“From what I’ve gathered, the kids will have the opportunity to explore and enjoy some sightseeing before diving into training sessions and engaging in team activities,” said Samantha.
“Bailey and I would just like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the club for providing such a wonderful and exciting new learning opportunity!”
Bailey’s selection to this exclusive tour, marks a significant milestone in his athletic career. The entire Gladstone Athletics Club and the community at large are undoubtedly cheering for Bailey and are looking forward to celebrating his victories both on and off the track.
