The fishing has been firing with reports down 1770 of Marlin being caught on the ocean side of the rocks land based. Masthead and Sykes are producing some fairly serious Coral Trout and Red Emperor on bigger baits in waters around the 38 metre mark and trolling the Shoals is giving up some nice Spanish, Spotted Mackerel and the odd Grey Mackerel.
Red Throat are in numbers with a lot of undersized fish around the Shoals yet deeper waters at Sykes are producing sizes in the vicinity of 65 cm plus which is, in anyone’s book, a nice fish. As we come into the cooler months and the temp drops and so does the wind, we should see some catches of Snapper around the 12 mile and Rundle Island particularly Bass Shoals so keep that in mind when planning your next outing. Also in these areas the Jew will be on the bite around the northern side – some good holes in there to target.
