Gladstone’s Toy Ride

The Ulysses Club of Gladstone is gearing up to hold its annual Toy Run on December 7th, an event that has become a beloved tradition for the local community over the past 25 years. This year, riders will gather at Tondoon Gardens, setting off at 10 a.m. sharp for a festive ride through Gladstone, eventually returning to the Gardens to wrap up the day with raffles, a sausage sizzle, and a show of beautifully decorated bikes.

The Toy Run aims to bring holiday cheer to local families in need, with all proceeds going toward food vouchers distributed by the Salvation Army. These vouchers are exclusively used for essential items to help brighten Christmas for many in the community. The Ulysses Club invites all motorcyclists to participate, asking each rider to bring either a new, unwrapped toy or a non-perishable food item. The event also encourages the public to come along and enjoy the festivities, including the chance to admire the lineup of motorbikes, join the raffles, and support the cause with a barbecue.

“It started with the Ulysses Club,” a John, an organiser for the Toy Run, explained. “The first Toy Run was organised by the Motorcycle Riders Association of Australia in Melbourne in the late 1980s, and here in Gladstone, it was initially managed by the Harley Owners Group before the Ulysses Club took it over.” Since then, the event has become a staple in Gladstone’s holiday calendar, showcasing the generosity and community spirit of local motorcyclists and businesses.

“Local firms donate goods and services each year, and we draw a raffle at the end of the event,” John added. “In recent years, we’ve had around 100 motorbikes, but we’re hoping for an even greater turnout this time. It’s a fun day with sausage sizzles, drinks for sale, and lots of chances to win some great prizes.”

Riders go the extra mile by dressing up their bikes with festive decorations to add some Christmas flair to the city streets. "This year, we’re going to try to be even more visual," said John. “So, come out and watch the bikes go by or join us at Tondoon Gardens for a barbecue.”

In addition to raffle tickets and donations, the Ulysses Club encourages community members to show their support by coming down to Tondoon Gardens or simply watching the Toy Run as it passes through Gladstone. “Ulysses is a not-for-profit group, and every bit of support goes a long way,” John noted. “If you’re unable to attend, you can still support by buying raffle tickets or donating non-perishable items to the Salvation Army.”

With a long-standing tradition of community support, the Ulysses Club’s Toy Run continues to inspire Gladstone residents each holiday season, reminding everyone of the power of coming together to make a difference.

On the 7th December this year , the Ulysses Club of Gladstone will be holding their annual toy run. All proceeds go towards food vouchers that the Local Salvation Army will distribute, and these will be used for food items(no alcohol or tobacco) to make local families Christmas a bit happier.

All motorcyclists are welcome and they are asked to bring a new toy (unwrapped) or a non-perishable food item. There will be a lucky draw and raffles on the day. The public are welcome to come down and have a look at all the bikes and enjoy a sausage sizzle.

It starts at 10 am sharp at the Tondoon Gardens and after a ride through our lovely city ends back at the Gardens.

This is always well supported by our local business community and we would love to see as many people there as possible.
