It was gold for Gladstone West State School’s West Warriors at last month’s FISAF (Federation of International Sport Aerobics & Fitness) Super Series.
The warriors, who were first-time competitors in the Gold Coast-based series, beat out nine other teams to take the crown in the Primary School Fitness Division.
Coach Margaret-Mary Opstelten said she was enormously proud of the team for their hard work and dedication.
“As part of the competition the students had to create a routine, and they did extremely well to work together to create a challenging yet upbeat and fun number,” she said.
“The competition was extremely tough, especially between the first three places, so I am so proud of our girls.
“Their result shows that hard work and dedication really does pay off.”
Sport Aerobics & Fitness comes from traditional aerobics but combines fitness and dance, as well as the ability to perform skill elements and movement with music, at high intensity.
GWSS has run a Sport Aerobics Program, which is open to all students from Prep to Year 6, since 2019.
Next up the West Warriors will compete at the Queensland Sport Aerobics Championships in Brisbane on June 19.
“Hopefully there will be a competition held in Gladstone in the near future,” Margaret-Mary said.
