Water provider’s technology leadership recognised on national stage

Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) leader named in CIO Australia’s Top 50 List

Gladstone Area Water Board Head of Technology Kiran Kewalramani has earned a spot in CIO Australia’s annual CIO50 list as one of Australia’s top 50 senior technology and digital leaders.

Nominated in recognition of his leadership and approach to the regional water utility’s technology and digital transformation over the last four years, Mr Kewalramani said it was a humbling experience to be recognised alongside some of the IT sector’s best leaders and executives.

“GAWB’s transformation journey is driven by its desire to become a digital utility with a focus on evidence based decision making and improved interoperability of systems across the organisation,” he said.

“For a regional water entity based in Central Queensland, digital transformation is not just a buzzword, it’s delivering value at a grass roots level, for our customers, community and people.

“It is a privilege to work with such a highly motivated and capable IT team who are dedicated to supporting our frontline in delivering safe and reliable water to our region.

“This, coupled with our leaders who help drive an inclusive and collaborative culture at GAWB, sets us up for success now and into the future.”

Despite the challenges that have arisen due to COVID-19, Mr Kewalramani and his team were able to continue supporting the business with its transformation journey.

GAWB Chief Executive Officer Darren Barlow said the organisation’s digital transformation journey was key to delivering safe and reliable water services to the region.

“With Kiran’s guidance, we are improving the way we deliver and respond to the need’s of our customers. As the region’s bulk water provider, our customers expect reliability and our digital strategy is key to doing that,” Mr Barlow said.

Since joining GAWB in 2017, Kiran has also volunteered his time to mentor Gladstone’s next generation of digital entrepreneurs as part of GAWB’s involvement in the StartUp Gladstone Youth Innv8tors program.
