While 2020 has been a year of many trials and triumphs, young Elsie Costello, from Boyne Island, is bringing a whole lot of colour and joy into what could be described as a bleak year.
The young entrepreneur has recently launched her own online store hosted on the RedBubble site. The platform offers a chance for Elsie to sell her original works in print form or on products such as cushions, coasters, travel mugs and even clothing. With the support and guidance of her proud parents Elsie’s art will soon be found in homes across Australia!
‘Mum had been sharing my art on her Facebook page and some of her friends said they would like a cushion with my art on it! I was so excited, so Mum and I created the online shop and launched it last weekend,” Elsie explained. ‘I really love creating art with lots of colour and using watercolours. I have a very good art teacher, Carolyne, who has taught me so much and I enjoy experimenting with new colours and techniques with her.’
Elsie regularly attends art classes with Carolyne Thornton, 2018 Martin Hanson QAL People’s Choice Award winner. Carolyne is a local artist who is influenced by colour and nature and teaches art classes based out of Tannum Sands.
Elsie currently has two designs in her shop, Birds of Paradise and Koala Love, both vibrant pieces celebrating the colours and characters of Australia’s flora and fauna. With more pieces to come Elsie, one day aims to have her own studio selling art supplies and teaching other kids about the joy that expression through art can bring.
