12 Mar 10 Year Old Local Donating Hair to Those Without
Lilly-rose Kaine of Calliope is hoping the community and local businesses will get behind her effort to raise funds for Variety – the Children’s Charity who give Aussie kids a fair go.
On 18th April 2020 at Alive Pharmacy in Calliope, Lilly-rose is chopping off her long locks and donating them to Variety. The donated hair will be sent to specialised wig makers, who make wigs for those who have lost their hair due to medical conditions; such as alopecia. The wigs give those in need more confidence and better self- esteem so they can feel like themselves again.
All funds raised will be donated to Variety which will go directly back into their programs, so Lilly-rose’s hair will assist Variety in helping Aussie kids by providing practical equipment, programs and experiences to help overcome obstacles they face.
Erin, 13, was diagnosed with alopecia and within six months she was completely bald. Erin was granted a wig from Variety and reclaimed her confidence and self-esteem. “She just wanted to feel ‘normal’ again and the wig from Variety certainly made all the difference. Her confidence sky-rocketed,” Erin’s Mum, Maria, said.
Lilly-rose has been growing her hair for almost 2 years and will be donating 35cm to Variety. When asked why she wanted to donate her hair she said “I know what it’s like to feel different to other kids & I want to help someone who doesn’t have any hair feel beautiful.” She explained that she loves her long hair (which is almost down to her tailbone) but believes someone needs it more than her.
