A new report has highlighted the immense economic, social, and cultural significance of the Great Barrier Reef, emphasising the urgent need for action to protect this national treasure. The Deloitte Access Economics report, At What Cost? Safeguarding the Great Barrier Reef’s Role in Australia’s Economy, values the Reef at $95 billion, contributing $9 billion annually to the Australian economy and supporting 77,000 full-time jobs, equivalent to the country’s fifth-largest employer.
