Rio Tinto is set to lead the development of Australia’s largest solar farm in Calliope, expected to occur in 2025 or 2026. Once approvals are secured, the construction of the solar farms are expected to take between 1-2 years. They have taken a decisive step towards a greener future by announcing their intention to obtain a substantial 1.1 gigawatts of solar power from the Upper Calliope Solar Farm. The pledge secures exclusive access for the company to the entire renewable energy output generated by the solar farm facility for an impressive 25-year term, showcasing a long-term commitment to sustainable energy practices.

Rio Tinto is not just going green but will also be creating jobs with the new solar farm. They will contribute to approximately 1000 construction and 100 operations jobs. With some of the jobs including labourers, machine operators, trades and technicians, engineers, project managers and other professionals.
