2026 proudly marks the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, observed from the 5th to the 12th of July this year, emphasising the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements across the country. The theme this year, “50 Years of Deadly,” highlights both “reflection and looking ahead,” said Vena Beetson, A First Nations (Gubbi Gubbi and Wiradjuri) Trainer and Implementation Consultant for the Triple P organisation, based in Meanjin/Brisbane.
In the Gladstone region, the week will be marked with several events, including a student fashion show at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum, the Men Yarn Up night at Bob’s Garage, the State of STEM experience at CQU, a free registered luncheon and movie night, and the NAIDOC Street March taking place on Friday 10th July. More information can be found at the Gladstone Regional Council’s website and on the First Nations Gladstone Committee Facebook page.
