01 Oct CAN YOU HELP PORT CITY POWER U18’s REACH THEIR STATE CHAMPS GOAL?
The Gladstone Port City Power U18 Men are a dedicated group of 15 & 16-year-olds who are committed to representing their region and hometown of Gladstone at the Queensland U18 State Championships on the Gold Coast in January 2020.
The team, coached by Hayden Castelle and Raymond Cooper, is fundraising to help with the expenses that come with qualifying for the State Championships.
Jenelle Knight, an organiser of the fundraising initiative, said in the lead up to the State Championships the boys are required to travel to play three qualifying tournaments to identify which division they will be ranked to play in at the January event.
“The Regional qualifying carnivals to determine which division they will be ranked are played in Gladstone, Rockhampton, and Bundaberg for our Central District. Two of these tournaments also involve the team traveling to Rockhampton and Bundaberg and staying for two nights in each city, plus food, travel, and registration costs,” Jenelle explained. “The Team Budget for the season is budgeted conservatively at $15000.00. This is a huge commitment and a challenging amount for the families to pay. Many parents try to travel to be at each competition to cheer and support their children; however, the associated accommodation and travel costs for them can make this very difficult.”
The team welcomes sponsors to come on board and help the team reach their State Championship goals. “The Team and Coaches are 100% committed, training three times a week, more in the school holidays. Any assistance possible would be greatly appreciated to help fund this team of motivated young men chase their dreams and goal,” Jenelle added.
