Help local Gladstone families battling blood cancer when they’re far from home. For Jenny Holland, life changed forever when her beloved son, Brent, was just 19 and diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He had to be flown to Brisbane for treatment, leaving the family in unfamiliar territory, facing uncertainty, fear, and exhaustion. From the very first day, the Leukemia Foundation offered them a lifeline, providing a home away from home for nine months where they could be together, supported, and cared for.
During Brent’s treatment, the Foundation helped organise a gym and physiotherapy sessions to keep him strong, nurturing the hope that he could one day return to work and resume life as he knew it. When Brent sadly lost his fight at 20 in 2017, Jenny and her family were not left alone in their grief. They were offered counselling and ongoing support, helping them navigate the immense pain of losing a child. In the years since, the Leukemia Foundation has continued to reach out, checking in and reminding the family that they are not forgotten.
