10 Sep Calliope Rotary to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House
Last year 18 families from Calliope stayed in a Ronald McDonald House for a total of 221 nights.
Calliope Rotary Club President Liz Cunningham said for those who have fit and healthy children, the lives of parents with seriously ill children was difficult to imagine.
“We have many families in Calliope, Gladstone and right across the region who are in this situation unfortunately, and day to day is a challenge,” she said.
“Emotional upheaval, travel, accommodation and medical intervention, each and every step brings significant cost.
“Ronald McDonald House provides free accommodation, only steps away from hospital, keeping families of seriously ill children together.”
The club is hosting a Trivia Night on September 11, with the hopes of raising over $5000 for the Ronald McDonald House in Herston, which has 48 bedrooms and supports 1044 families a year.
“All money raised through our Trivia Night will go straight towards Ronald McDonald House, and we hope to be able to raise enough to have ‘Calliope’ put on one of the rooms of the Herston House which is just a three minute walk from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Brisbane,” Liz said.
“We’d really like to encourage everyone, whether you live in Calliope or Gladstone, Mount Larcom or Yarwun to come down to the Calliope Community Hall on September 11 to support this worthwhile cause, it is sure to be a fantastic night.”
