Central Queensland’s supply chain is set to benefit from a major clean-energy investment, with the Federal Government giving the green light to Eku Energy’s large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) near Gladstone. The project received approval in just 18 days, signalling strong government support for initiatives that strengthen Australia’s renewable energy network.
The 300MW BESS, to be built in Byellee, will have the capacity to power up to 260,000 households for four hours during periods of peak demand. Connected directly to existing Powerlink Queensland infrastructure, the facility will play a critical role in stabilising the region’s energy grid, managing fluctuations, improving reliability, and providing a backup power source in the event of an outage.
