Acknowledging the need for a solution to cover the intermittent generation gap left by the potential exit of coal from the system, Nick highlighted the crucial role of battery storage in this transition.
When questioned about why Gladstone was chosen for this project, Nick pointed to the favourable electrical conditions at the Wurdong substation. Located on the 275 KB line, the substation is an ideal electrical hub for the envisioned battery storage facility. Additionally, the strategic positioning in an industrial area away from major residential zones makes Gladstone an optimal site for this development, aligning well with the community’s understanding of industrial progress.
In terms of benefits to the Gladstone region, Nick emphasized the creation of local jobs. The project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor is expected to engage local subcontractors, ensuring a boost to the regional economy.
