Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum is hosting FREE workshops next week, with local artists Anne Huth and Jan Ross-Manley, in conjunction with current exhibitions.
COLOUR II Merv Moriarty: In the Field is a touring exhibition of recent works by artist, art educator and founder of Flying Arts Alliance, Mervyn Moriarty. Marking the extraordinary impact that Mervyn Moriarty and The Flying Arts School had in the Gladstone Region during the late 1970s and 1980s, the touring project is complemented by Flying Arts and the Gladstone Region, a locally curated showcase of works from private and public collections that demonstrate the impact of Moriarty’s legacy. Flying Arts Alliance is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
Anne Huth is one of the artists featured in the Flying Arts and the Gladstone Region. Working in acrylic, watercolour and sketching, Anne participated in workshops with Merv Moriarty in the days gone by and shared her recollections of the time, for a series of artist interviews, currently showing at the Gallery & Museum.
Anne will present a watercolour workshop for young artists aged 5 to 11 years, 10.30am to 12.30pm, Tuesday, 21 January 2020.
Jan Ross-Manley is the artist and curator behind the Reef on Our Mind: The Great Barrier Reef in the Australian Psyche exhibition. The show is the result of Jan’s three-year investigation into how the Reef has come to hold such a dear place in the hearts and minds of Australians. Telling the story through art, objects and memorabilia, the exhibition shows how the colourful Wonder of the World has become a national treasure imprinted onto the very core of Aussie DNA.
Jan will present a fabric collage workshop for young artists aged 12 to 17 years, 10.30am to 2pm, Thursday, 23 January 2020.
Reef on Our Mind: The Great Barrier Reef in the Australian Psyche is supported by the Gladstone Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) and made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance. RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Gladstone Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
