On the 30th Anniversary of National Recycling Week, we’re focusing on valuing and respecting our environment, our natural resources, and pushing our region towards creating a more sustainable place to live. Held from the 9th – 15th of November this year, we’re coming together to challenge Gladstone to reduce, reuse and recycle!
- Reuse and Repair First – Recycling is great, but it is the very last step before landfill. Challenge yourself to reuse and repair as many items as possible to avoid waste. TOP TIP: To get the most out of our items, try getting them repaired, attending a swap meet or buying second-hand, donating edible items to a food bank, and donating to the Gladstone reUse Shed to keep everything in circulation.
- Recycle Right – Soft Plastics, batteries, vapes and other e-waste do NOT belong in your recycling bin! Always take them to a dedicated drop-off point, such as a local supermarket, department store, or battery store to avoid starting a dangerous fire in the recycling truck or polluting the environment with hazardous chemicals.
- Know What Can Be Recycled – You can put unwaxed cardboard, paper, glass jars, rinsed food tins, clean alfoil (rolled into a ball), aerosol containers, drink cans, and plastic bottles numbered 1,2,4 or 5 on the bottom out for recycling. Always check your local Council website for more information on what can be put into your yellow bin.
- Be a Recycling Superstar – Host your own swap day, volunteer with a repair café, food rescue program or clean-up group, buy loose fruit and vegetables, choose goods made from recycled materials, use the new green Garden Organics bin to recycle plant clippings, and take aluminum cans and plastic drink bottles to a collection point to get some cash back!
