Chanel College’s Under-16 Boys and Girls rugby teams both put in stellar performances at the Western 7’s Rugby Union tournament held in Emerald last weekend, demonstrating skill, determination, and great team spirit.
The Boys’ team, despite having only eight players available, fought valiantly throughout the competition. They advanced all the way to the Grand Final, where they faced off against a strong Rockhampton Grammar side. The final score was 27-7 in favour of Rockhampton Grammar, but the match was closer than the scoreboard suggests, with two Chanel tries controversially disallowed. Under the leadership of captain Darcy R, the boys displayed exceptional resilience, losing only one game over the course of the weekend. Carter Y’s outstanding efforts earned him the Most Valuable Player award, while Jai H’s consistent improvement on the field saw him take home the Most Improved Player accolade.
